Nothing says "The Lou" quite like the Gateway Arch and Cardinals baseball—that's why Optometry's Meeting® is giving attendees the full St. Louis experience and taking them out to the ballgame.

AOA would like to extend to members a personal invitation to join in for new, original entertainment and events geared toward the whole family.

The 122nd AOA Congress & 49th AOSA Conference: Optometry's Meeting convenes at America's Center Convention Complex, June 19-23, 2019, for five days of the latest continuing education, professional leadership and networking opportunities, and the newest industry advances and services in the Exhibit Hall. The profession's premier conference, Optometry's Meeting is the opportunity for doctors of optometry, paraoptometrics and students to make a positive impact on their career and profession. And this year, it's time to lighten the mood.

A hub of America's heartland, St. Louis is home to the AOA's national headquarters, and the AOA would like to extend to members a personal invitation to join in for new, original entertainment and events geared toward the whole family.

AOA Block Party

This Optometry's Meeting is a homecoming of sorts for AOA membership, so it's only fitting that opening festivities will take place at AOA's recently renovated St. Louis headquarters.

Substituting the traditional Opening General Session, Optometry's Meeting will kick off Wednesday, June 19, with the AOA Block Party, from 4-7 p.m., at the 243 N. Lindbergh Blvd. headquarters in St. Louis County. Complete with live music and entertainment, local food trucks and hometown brews, the AOA Block Party offers a festival-like, laid-back and casual experience great for the whole family. Come watch the annual AOA Awards ceremony and tour the home of the AOA with indoor and outdoor events.

And don't worry about travel; conference attendees can access continuous transportation to and from AOA's headquarters and the America's Center starting at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Be sure to check aoa.org/news for further updates and announcements as we countdown to Optometry's Meeting.

Celebration of Optometry at Cardinals Nation

If the Gateway Arch is No. 1 on tourists' must-see St. Louis locations, then the Cardinals' Busch Stadium is a close second, and Optometry's Meeting is excited to deliver a memorable, scenic experience that captures both.

Optometry's Meeting is taking registrants out to the ballgame for a grand slam Celebration of Optometry, sponsored by Hoya Vision Care, Saturday, June 22, but don't worry about the crowd. That's because attendees will be watching the game from the all-inclusive, private, four-story Cardinals Nation outside left-center field.

Located inside Ballpark Village, downtown St. Louis' newest dining and entertainment district, Cardinals Nation is a 34,000-square-foot baseball experience, replete with the Cardinals' Hall of Fame museum and outdoor stadium seating with scenic views of both Busch Stadium and downtown St. Louis.

If that's not memorable enough, our very own AOA President-elect Barbara L. Horn, O.D., will be tossing out the first pitch as the hometown Cardinals square off against the Los Angeles Angels (time TBD) in what should be former Cardinals' great and two-time World Series champ Albert Pujols' first return to Busch Stadium. Dr. Horn will be the first incoming AOA president to throw a first pitch at a Cardinals game since Richard Hopping, O.D., took the mound in 1972 at the 75th AOA Congress.

Plan ahead

Clearly, this isn't an Optometry's Meeting to miss, so start planning your experience today. Housing is already open.

So meet us in St. Louis, and help us root for the home team.
